• The installer must be familiar with administering Windows XP.

• Have the Ghost bootable CD-ROM.
• Have the Microsoft windows XP PRO CD-ROM (This is not the HP CD).

The references of the CD-ROM are in the CSD document associated with the family to install.

2.1 Preparation for a single HDD configuration

In case of a PCFS configuration with two HDD, go to chapter 2.2.

After installing Windows with “HP Restore plus ! ” CD, or on a new PC received with Windows XP already
installed, the partition that contains Windows XP occupies the whole disc.

In first, it will be necessary to reduce the size of this partition, in order to have place for other partitions on
the disk.

2.1.1 Save the Windows XP PRO installation on a Ghost image

Before reducing partition size, the installation must be saved on a R+ or RW+ DVD.

- Insert the Ghost bootable CD in the DVD drive and restart the PCFS

- At “Enter a choice”, choose “2” and press “Enter”

- When asked, press any key to continue...

- When the window “About Symantec Ghost” appears, eject the CD and insert a RW+ DVD or a
blank R+ DVD. Then, Click “Ok”.

- Click Local -> partition -> To image

- At “Select local source drive...” the drive # 1 is selected : Click “Ok”

- At “Select source partition(s)...” , select part. 1 and Click “Ok”

- At “File name to copy image to”, in Look-in menu select the DVD drive (the name of saved image
can’t be changed), and Click “Save”.

- At “Compress image file”, Click “High”

- At “Make the CD/DVD disk bootable ?”, Click “No”

- At “Question : proceed with Partition Backup to CD/DVD ?”, Click “Yes”

- At “Question : Warning – Spanned NTFS images on removable media may result...” Click “Yes”

- If this question appears : “the DVD is not blank, overwrite it ?”, Click “Yes” (case of a RW+ DVD
already used)

- After DVD is written, a new window appears : “Image creation completed successfully”. Click
“Continue”.

It is advised to control the integrity of the file image created :

- Click “Local -> Check -> Image File”

- Select the DVD drive and Click “Open”

- At “Question : process with image file integrity check”, Click “Yes”.

- If the message “Image file passed integrity check” appears, Click “Continue”, quit Ghost and
restart the PCFS (Crtl Alt Del). Otherwise, the image will be remade before continuing the process.

 2.1.2 Reduce the size of the windows XP partition

- Insert the Microsoft XP PRO installation CD in the drive (see § 1 - prerequisites)

- Restart the PCFS

- When the message “Attempting to boot from CD ROM” appears, press any key to boot from CD
(note that this message appears briefly – be attentive).

- Wait until loading Windows Setup files

- At “Welcome to Setup”, press Enter

- At “Windows XP Licensing agreement”, press F8

- At the next window, press ESC to install a fresh copy of Windows XP

- The new window show the partition existing on the disk

C: Partition 1 [ NTFS ]

- Press D to delete this partition

- Press Enter to continue

- Press L to confirm the deletion

- Press C to create a partition

- Enter the size of the new partition : 40 000 Mb and press Enter

- Now the C: partition of 40Gb is created and the rest of the disk is unpartitioned space.

- Press Enter to continue

- At Formatting window, accept the choice and press Enter

- Wait until partition is formatted. The process of installation continue (copying files for Setup).

- At the first interrupt of the installation process (for asking the operator), eject the Microsoft Windows
XP PRO CD and insert the ghost bootable CD. Press the Power button at least 5s to shut down the
PCFS, and then restart it.

2.1.3 Restore Windows XP PRO

- At “Enter a choice”, choose “2” and type on “Enter”

- When asked, press any key to continue...

- When the window “About Symantec Ghost” appears, eject the CD and insert the DVD containing
the saved image, then Click “Ok”.

- Click Local -> Partition -> From image

- At “Image file name to restore from”, in Look-in menu select the DVD drive, and Click “Open”.

- At “Select source partition from image file”, Part. #1 is selected, Click “Ok”

- At “Select local destination drive ...”, Drive # 1 is selected, Click “Ok”

- At “Select destination partition from basic drive : 1”,Click Part. 1 and Click “Ok”

- At “Question : proceed with partition restore ?”, Click “Yes”

- After the image is restored, quit ghost, eject the DVD and restart the PCFS.

- Check “Enable quota management”

- Check “Deny disk space to users exceeding quota limit”

- Check “Limit disk space to” and in field put the capacity of the partition (ex 18,56 GB), and in the
field “Set warning level to” 80% of the capacity of the partition (ex: 14,84 GB).
Warning : don't forget to change the unit (Mb or Gb)

- Check “Log event when a user exceeds their warning level”
