Worksheet # 1

Construct a line segment congruent to a given line segment. Draw a segment and label it AB. This
will be the given segment.
A● ●B
Step 1: Use a straightedge to draw PS so it is longer than AB.
Step 2: Place the steel tip of the compass at A and the writing tip at B.
Step 3: Keep the same setting on the compass and place the steel tip at P. Draw an arc that intersects
PS. Name this point Q.
PQ is now congruent to AB. PQ ≅ AB

Worksheet # 2

Construct an angle that is congruent to a given angle. First, draw an angle and label it <PQR. This
will be the given angle.

Step 1: Use a straightedge to draw ST.

Step 2: Place the steel tip of the compass at Q. Draw an arc that intersects both sides of <PQR. Name
these points X and Y.
Step 3: Keeping the same compass setting, place the steel tip at S and draw an arc that intersects ST.
Label this A.

Step 4: Place the compass so one tip is at X and the other is at Y. Keep that setting and place the
steel tip at A. Draw an arc that intersects the arc you drew in Step 3. Label this point M.
Step 5: With a straightedge, draw SM.
<MST is congruent to <PQR.
<MST ≅ <PQR
