Android and IOS both are operating systems.

Rather than directly comparing both this operating

systems we should first understand what is operating system. In order to control and manage
hardware and software we need a software and this resource is refereed as operating system. It is
basically a component of system software. In hardware functions such as input and output and
memory allocations operating system acts as an intermediate. Examples of operating system are
Android, IOS.

Android was developed by Google. It is based on Linux Kernel. Android is mainly designed for the
touch screen smart phones, tablets. By tapping, swiping, pinching we can manipulate the real world
objects. Android also has launched many of its versions. Here is a table which lists all the versions of
the Android.

Version Name
1.6 Donut
2.1 Eclair
2.2 Froyo
2.3 Gingerbread
3.0 Honeycomb
4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
4.1 Jelly Bean

There are eight components of Kernel which are as follows:-

(1) Program Execution

(2) Interrupts
(3) Modes
(4) Memory Management
(5) Virtual Memory
(6) Multitasking
(7) Disk Access and File System
(8) Device drivers

Now moving on to IOS which is iPhone Operating System was developed by Apple Inc. It is used for
Apple hardware. After Android IOS is the second most sold operating system. The user interface of
IOS is based on direct manipulation. IOS was developed by Scott Forstall. He provided this operating
system as a platform for third party developers. Over the past eight years iPhone has evolved and so
has the IOS . IOS also has many versions and those are as follows:-

2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2,
