For PGCB/DPDC/DESCO exam:

English+ General knowledge> the more u know, the better.

Technical (Electrical only)
A lot of people are really interested to join PGCB as an assistant engineer. I appreciate the
excitement. Recently a few people asked me to write a suggestion in this group as I worked there as
an assistant engineer for more than 2 years (May, 2012-July, 2014).
The exam question paper was set by BUET. I believe it will be the same institution again this time
although the teacher who sets the question may not be the same. I would like you to concentrate on
the following courses:
1. DC+AC circuits> some basic problems> KCL,KVL,Maximum power transfer,Source
Transformation, small circuit may be given to solve in the exam. Also emphasize on complex
power,balanced circuit,Y-Delta transformation.
Book:
1. DC: Alexander and Sadiku, Boylested
2. AC: Corcoran, Alexander and Sadiku.
2. Electrical Machines> specially transformer, Induction motor and synchronous generator. try to
grab the basic because you don't know the exact problem that will be given in the exam.
Transformer tests, per unit analysis should be emphasized.
Book:
1. Chapman (Best I've seen so far), Fitgerald.
3. Power System Analysis: Basic calculations on transformer, transmission line modeling-
short, medium, long, Line Sag, Ferranti effect, Corona loss, Skin effect, Symmetrical and
Unsymmetrical faults and sequence networks.
Book:
1. Hadi sadat (best so far), Stevenson (BUET teachers love this book.)
4. Communication theory: basic concepts like sampling, quantization, bit error rate, SNR, channel
coding, modulation techniques--AM,FSK,QPSK etc.
Any communication theory book. Even internet works!!!
5. Digital logic Design: Just take a look at logic gates and truth table. that's it.
Any DLD book. Even internet works!!!
There are a lot of books from indian writers. They are good as well. Please remember the more you
know the better. DO NOT TAKE MY WORDS AS THE ONLY SUGGESTION. Just emphasize on the
topic I mentioned.
BEST OF LUCK!!!
