Test 2
(a) A carrier wave of frequency 91 MHz is frequency modulated by a sine wave of amplitude
10 Volts and 15 kEIz. The frequency deviation sensitivity is 3 KHz/V. Calculate the:
(Modulation index.
(ii) Peak frequency deviation.

(b) Table 1 shows the power at the unmodulated carrier and power at each set of the significant
side frequency for the frequency modulated signal. Given a frequency modulated signal is
Vin()=Ve cos [400kat + m sin 2500n1).
Table 1
7 Power (Watts)
Power at unmodulated cartier, Pe 20 |
Power at the I” set of side frequency P1 12428
Power at the 2 set of side frequency P2 2175
Power at the 3" set of side frequency P3 0.1546
Power at the 4® set of side frequency P4 0.004
() Determine the modulation index.
(ii) Draw the power spectrum. Label fully.
ii) Calculate the transmission bandwidth using Carson’s Rule.
