The Anatomy of Horror Films

Final Project Proposal

WHAT:

I wanted to re-score a couple of scenes from certain horror films, all linking to an

underlying theme (which will be the title of the collection) with the music helping to fully

exemplify both the action and the message of the scenes.

SCENES:

1. “A Night to Dismember”: 1983 sexploitation film by Doris Wishman.

-Original score consists of spooky library music and 1980’s shit rock. Certainly needs an

update

2. “Tenement”: 1985 action-horror film by Robert Findlay.

-Described as a revisualization of her childhood, a lot of disturbing gang scenes

exhibiting 1960’s Bronx, NY. Soundtrack is very pastiche action film, would be enhanced

with some proper synth work.

3. “Mirror Mirror”: 1990 “Carrie” rip-off film by Marina Sargenti.

-Unpopular teenager uses evil forces to get back at those who wrong her. Though set in

the 1990’s, very cheesy 80’s backing music which at some points fail to match scenes.

4. “Prospettive”: 1994 DeGenerazione anthology entry by Asia Argento.

-Very low budget (no budget) horror film with a score that exemplifies that…not much

else to be said.
All films directed by women! There may be more, less, or switched scenes in my mock-

collection/“anthology” to speak on the female mind/place/state as represented by the

films.

METHODOLOGY:

Musically, all the compositions will be originals whether they be collages, using samples

and drum tracks, or completely fresh, instrumented pieces. More likely to be the latter,

but there will be a lot going on either way so I am making sure to not lose track of every

single sound bite I use. Every sample, voice, speech, etc. will be noted and added to what

a bibliography.
