1. Hardware Requirements

Windows:
Windows 98/XP
133 MHz Pentium or above
32 MB RAM (256 MB recommended for XP)
Video and sound cards compatible with DirectX� 9 or higher
DirectX 9 or higher
QuickTime 6 or higher required
4x DVD-ROM drive or faster
30 MB Available Hard Drive Space
640x480 Display, 24-bit color or better

Mac:
Macintosh OS 8.6 or higher (not OS X native)
Power PC
16 MB RAM
6MB Video Card Supporting millions of colors
QuickTime 6 or higher required
75 MB Available Hard Disk Space
640x480 display, thousands of colors
4X DVD-ROM drive or faster

It is recommended for all video cards that you obtain the latest drivers from your
card's
developer for best performance.

2. Installation

PC:

To Install:
* Start at the Windows 98/XP desktop.
* Insert the Myst Masterpiece Edition DVD-ROM disk (Myst ME) into your DVD-
ROM drive. The
Myst ME autorun window should appear.
* Select the Install option and follow the on-screen instructions to install
the program.

If the startup window does not appear automatically on the screen, you can
install the
program manually:
* Select the Start button on the taskbar and choose RUN.
* Type D:\SETUP.EXE in the line labeled OPEN. (If your DVD-ROM drive uses a
letter other
than D, substitute that letter for D.)
* Select the OK button and follow the on-screen instructions to install Myst
Masterpiece Edition.

To Play:
* After successfully installing the program, select the PLAY option on the
startup screen. Or go to the Start Menu, select Programs, select Ubi Soft,
select Myst
Masterpiece Edition and select the Myst Masterpiece option.

To Remove:
* Go to the Start Menu, select Programs, select Ubi Soft, select Myst
Masterpiece Edition
and select Uninstall.

Mac:

To Install:
* Insert the Myst Masterpiece Edition DVD-ROM disk into your DVD-ROM drive.
* Create a folder called "Myst Masterpiece Edition" on your hard drive.
Note, the name of the folder
does not actually matter, however the game cannot be directly installed on
your desktop.
* Copy the following into your into your "Myst Masterpiece Edition" folder:
*Myst ME Data folder (74 MB)
*Myst Mastpiece application
*Myst ME Readme
*Manual.pdf
*Optionally, the "RMiller.mov" movie can also be copied over for better
playback
* QuickTime 6 is required to play Myst ME as well as run the bonus movie.
Installers have been provided on the DVD for the latest QuickTime versions
for your OS.
* Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the Manual.pdf file. Installers
have been provided
on the DVD for the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader versions for your OS.

To Play:
* Double-click the application "Myst Masterpiece" on your hard drive. Note,
it
cannot be launched directly from the DVD.
* Optionally, you can launch the "Ubi Soft Registration" application from the
DVD in order
to register your product.

To Uninstall:
* Drag the "Myst Masterpiece Edition" folder from your hard drive to the
trash and empty the trash.

3. Tips for Enhancing Performance

***Important Note***

-If you do not see your error message listed in this document, please do not
disregard the need to update
your drivers. This is essential to run the program effectively. Do not assume
that your new computer has
the latest drivers. We suggest contacting the manufacturers of the DVD-ROM,
sound, and video cards to
ensure that you have the most current driver versions.

-Changing Display Drivers


Myst Masterpiece Edition will automatically change yourscreen resolution to
640x480. Be sure that your
color settings are set to 24-bit color or better. To do this, go to the Start
Menu and select Settings
and then Control Panel. Double-click on the Display icon. Click on the Settings
tab and under Colors,
select 24-bit color or better.

- Make sure the DVD-ROM is in your DVD-ROM drive when you launch the progam.

4. TroubleShooting

PROBLEMS WHILE PLAYING MYST MASTERPIECE EDITION

-SCREEN SAVERS
If you are running a screen saver you may want to disable it before playing Myst.
Certain screen savers may affect the performance of QuickTime for Windows.

-PROBLEM USING ALT+S


If you use the keystroke combination Alt+S to access Save/Save As,press the Alt
and
the S at the same time. Pressing Alt first will bring up the taskbar which will
not
allow the system to access the command properly.

-OTHER PROBLEMS
You cannot load saved games from the original version of Myst.Myst Masterpiece
Edition
and original Myst saved games are notcompatible with each other.

-RIGHT-MOUSE BUTTON
Using the right-mouse button may cause unreliable behavior in the game. The game
does
not require right-clicks. Use the left-mouse button only.

5. FAQ

Q. When starting Myst Masterpiece Edition, you may get the error Invalid Page Fault
in Myst.exe
A. This issue is typically resolved by changing your display settings.
You may need to change your desktop color settings to match those of Myst
Masterpiece Edition system
requirements.

To do this:
To determine color setting and change (if necessary), follow these steps:
1. Click the Start button, select Settings and choose Control Panel. The Control
Panel window will
open.
2. Locate and double-click on the Display icon. A window titled Display Properties
will appear.
3. Click the settings tab.
4. Go to the section labeled Color Palette, then change the setting to 24-bit
color
5. Click Apply and then OK. You may need to restart Windows.
6. Restart Myst Masterpiece Edition. The program should now run without error.

NOTE: If you don't have a 24-bit or higher color setting for your display, then
your video card does
not meet the minimum system requirements for Myst Masterpiece Edition. You will
need to upgrade your
video card.

Q. When trying to start Myst Masterpiece Edition, I get the error "Access
Violation."
A. This issue is typically resolved by changing your display settings.
You may need to change your desktop color settings to match those of Myst
Masterpiece Edition system requirements.

To do this:
To determine color setting and change (if necessary), follow these steps:

1. Click the Start button, select Settings and choose Control Panel. The Control
Panel window will
open.
2. Locate and double-click on the Display icon. A window titled Display Properties
will appear.
3. Click the settings tab.
4. Go to the section labeled Color Palette, then change the setting to 24-bit

5. Click Apply and then OK. You may need to restart Windows.
6. Restart Myst Masterpiece Edition. The program should now run without error.

Q. When playing Myst Masterpiece Edition, voices may be garbled, choppy, or simply
too fast.
A. This issue is most likely the result of a conflict with your sound card, and is
prominent with
the RipTide sound card. Please try each of the resolutions listed below.

Sound Hardware Acceleration


If you are using Windows 98, you may need to change the sound hardware
acceleration to none.

1. From the desktop, click on the Start button, select Settings, and click Control
Panel. A window
titled Control Panel will appear.
2. Locate and double-click on the Multimedia icon. A window titled Multimedia
Properties will appear.
3. If it is not selected, click the Audio tab.
4. If it is not selected, select your sound card as the Preferred device from the
drop-down menu
under Playback.
5. Click on the Advanced Properties button located below the Playback Section. A
window titled
Advanced Multimedia Properties will appear.
6. Click on the Performance tab.
7. Locate and move the Hardware acceleration to None.
8. Click on Apply and OK.
9. Click on the MIDI tab in the Multimedia Properties window.
10. Change the single Instrument device to Yamaha Synth if it is listed (or
Riptide synth).
11. Click Apply and OK. Run Myst Masterpiece Edition.

If the problem still persists, continue with the QuickTime settings directions
below.

QuickTime Settings

1. From the Windows desktop, click on the Start button, select Settings, and click
Control Panel.
A window titled Control Panel will appear.
2. Locate and double-click on the QuickTime icon (the QuickTime icon looks like a
3D blue "Q"). A
window titled QuickTime Settings will appear.
3. Select the Sound Out option from the drop-down menu.
4. Under Choose device for playback, select the lowest kHz setting.
5. Close the QuickTime Settings window. Run Myst Masterpiece Edition.
6. If this does not resolve the issue, repeat step 4, selecting the next highest
kHz setting.
7. If you have tried each of the kHz settings and the issue is not resolved,
choose a different
playback device (This is found directly under the Sound Out option and is
probably set to waveOut).

Q. Clicking on the Myst book will cause the computer to lock up with a blank
screen.
A. A number of possible solutions exist for this issue.

Display Settings
First make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your video card,
and that it is
capable of running at 24 bit True Color. Your desktop colors must be set to at
least 24 bit color,
it is a system requirement. If your desktop color is already set to 24 bit or
greater, try the next
step.

Multimedia Settings

Check the "Preferred Playback Device" in the Multimedia section of the Control
Panel.
To do this:
1. Go to Start, Settings and Control Panel.
2. Double-click on the Multimedia icon.
3. In the "Playback" section, change the "Preferred Device" line to the read "Wave
Out" or
"Playback" for the system's appropriate sound card. You do not want this line
to say "Wave Device
for Voice Modem". It needs to be set to the "Wave Out" or "Playback" for the
particular sound card.
For example: "SB16 Wave Out".
