Introduction:

• BHEL is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in

India in the energy related infrastructure sector today.
• BHEL was established more than 40 years ago when its first plant
was setup in Bhopal.
• BHEL is one of India’s nine larger Public Sector Undertakings or
PSUs ,known as the NAVRATNAS or the nine jewels .
• 65% of overall electricity is generated by BHEL. And 75% of overall
electricity is generated by the BHEL’s equipments .
• BHEL EDN, Bangalore was found in 1976, mainly to establish a
strong base in the area of power and industrial electronics.

ELECTRONIC DEPARTMENT

1. System testing department :-

• It checks the operation of finished goods.
• System testing receives engineering drawing , signal
flow diagram and conducts various test like
continuity test , high voltage test, functional test.
• Air conditioned test area of appox 2500 m sqr.
• Capacity to line up and test upto 600 cubicales at a
time across 5 test shops.
• 3 types of test---
• continuity test
• High voltage test
• Functional test

2. Solar Photovoltaic cell assembly
• PV cell is an electrical device which converts energy
of the light directly into the electricity by
photoelectric effect.
• PV cell was developed at Bell Laboratory in 1954.
• Monocrystalline Si, Polycrystalline Si, Cadmium
Telluride are mostly used material for PV
manufacturing.
• Operation of PV cell requires 3 basic attributes-
i. Absorption of light.
ii. Separation of opposite Charge carriers.
iii.Separate extraction of carriers to an external circuit.

GENERAL LAYOUTS
SCADA systems:-
• Stands for supervisory control And data acquisition.
• SCADA systems are used in industrial processes: steel making,
power generation (conventional and nuclear) and distribution.
• There Are 4 Components In the SCADA System.
 Field Instrumentation
 Remote Terminal Units.
 Communications Network.
 Central Monitoring Station
• SCADA is used as safety tool as lock- out tag-out.
• SCADA consist of human machine interface.
• It also consist of RTU , which is connected to sensor and PLC which
is used as the field devices because they are more economical ,
flexible , versatile than RTU’s.
• HMI device present the processed data to a human operator.
Working of SCADA System :
• Most control actions are performed by RTU and MPLC’s.
• Data acquisition begins at RTU’s and PLC’s level then
data is compiled and formatted .
• SCADA system typically implements a distributed
database called ‘tag database’.which contains data
element called ‘tag or point’.
• A point represent a single input or output value
controlled by system.it can be ‘hard or soft’
• Point are stored as value timestamp pair:a value and
timestamp.
• A series of value timestamp gives history of point.
• Diag shows the SCADA operation for flowing water.
High Voltage Direct Current Systems:
• there arises some technical problems of transmitting
power to such a long distance using AC.In the view of the
draw backs of ac the HVDC transmission has come into
picture.
• The use of an HVDC link in an ac system requires
converter stations at each end of the line.
• In 1977 HVDC system has used only solid state devices ,
in most cases thyrister valve.
• HVDC using thyrister valve called “line cumulated
converter(LCC ) “.due to some limitation in LCC ,CCC
HVDC are used.
• CCC differs from a conventional HVDC ,like it has a series
of capacitors inserted in AC line connection either on
primary or sec. side on converter transformer.
Advantages:
Technical Economical

• Reactive power • DC lines and cables are

requirement cheaper than ac lines or
cables.
• System stability
• Short Circuit Current • The towers of the dc
lines are narrower,
• Independent Control of simpler and cheaper
ac system compared to the towers
• Fast change of energy of the ac lines.
flow • Line losses in a dc line
are lower than the losses
in an ac lines.
Hvdc Transmission:
Operator Training Simulator System:
• OTS is an computer based training system
that uses a dynamic simulation.
• Simulator is configured in a virtual
environment with exact replica of actual
plant condition.
• Elements of a typical OTS:
i. Dynamic simulation software
ii. Process model
iii.Instructor interface
iv.DCS emulator
v. Replica of operator station
OTS Features by BHEL:
• Simulator is developed based on
mathematical and physical model
approaches.
• It consist of model server , instructor
station, operator work section for
training section and remote areas.
• Training simulator application consist of
human machine interface , dynamic
model sever and instructor station.

Conclusion:-

• BHEL is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in

India .
• The company manufactures 235 MW nuclear turbine generator sets
and in future it will 500 MW.
• BHEL is a major contributor of equipment and systems to
industries.
• At the all, till now BHEL is best in supply and manufacturing
products.
