Objectives

At the end of a 60-minute lesson, the students must have demonstrated the following with
at least 78% proficiency:

a. defined the Collision Theory;

b. explained the Collision Theory through a molecular representation;
c. differentiated exothermic reaction and endothermic reaction though Collision Theory;
d. identified factors affecting reaction rates relative to the Collision Theory.

II. Subject Matter

C. Skills: Communicating Ideas, Imaginative Skills, Classifying, Inference

D. Values: Mutual Respect, Cooperation, Patience and Problem Solving

E. Science Ideas:
Reactions can only happen when the reactant particles collide,
but most collisions are NOT successful in forming product molecules
despite the high rate of collisions. Reactants should have sufficient
energy, and their molecules should be in proper orientation for a
successful collision to happen.
The minimum kinetic energy required for reaction is known as
the activation energy.
The rate of chemical reaction is affected by the following factors;
temperature, surface area of reactants, presence of catalyst and
concentration of reactants.
Every factor that affects reaction rate can be understood relative
to collision theory.

III. Procedure:

A. Pre-developmental Activities

Recall:
“Good Morning Class, what have we finished the last time?”

Motivation:
The students will watch a clip illustrating the Collisions.
B. Developmental Activities

 Introduce the Collision Theory relating to the video watched by the students.

 Explain the Collision Theory using a molecular representation.

 Introduce the Exothermic and Endothermic Reactions using graphical illustration.

 Introduce the Factors Affecting Reaction Rates of a Chemical Reaction.

C. Post Developmental Activities

Guide Questions:

1. What is Collision Theory?

2. What causes a chemical reaction?
3. How an exothermic or endothermic reaction occurs?
4. What factors affect the reaction rates of a chemical reaction?

IV. Evaluation

Administer a short quiz regarding the Collision Theory.

V. Assignment

Perform Activity No. 20 “Making Connections”.
