VOID FRACTION MEASUREMENT IN A VERTICAL STEAM-WATER
AND COMPARISON WITH AIR-WATER TWO PHASE FLOW
Title :
SYSTEMS

Supervisor : DR. MOHD ZAMRI BIN ZAINON

Abstract

These days, two phase flow system widely used in many application such as chemical

processing, oil refinery and recovery and power plants. The parameters and results from this

system contribute many importance to ensure the industrial application can operating with low

risk and in order to avoid any fatalities. From two phase flow studies, the researchers can

implement this studies in many appliance of industries as a precaution or safety measure to

reduce and escape from any disaster. There are several parameters that most affecting such as

void fraction and flow pattern. The relation between flow pattern and superficial velocity of

phases is important thing to contribute proper avoidance to any system involved.

This research is conducted to study the void fraction measurement in a vertical steam-

water and comparison with air-water two phase flow systems. This type of flow (gas-liquid

flow) is commonly used in many industrial appliance especially for pipeline system. The

parameter results that will be achieved from this experiment is void fraction, temperature

profile, liquid film thickness, bubbles sizes, superficial velocity and many others. Besides that,

there are some important considerations that should be focused to provide good flow condition

such as pipe materials, piping arrangement and others.
