BUDYONG is a local name for helmet shell, which is a member of the marine snail family Cassidae,

characterized by a large thick shell with a shield like inner lip (Britannica.com). The empty trumpet-like
shell of the Budyong is often used by the natives by blowing through the tip of the shell, to cue any public
announcement or warning for impending attack of the enemies and perils of nature. In Bicolano media
practice, Budyong is a metaphor for providing useful information to the public for knowledge, safety, and
service.
