THE FUTURE OF TURISM IN ECUADOR

Tourism is an industry that grows very fast over time. The future industry of
tourism in Ecuador can cause benefits to local populations such as generating a
source of income for the projects of the destinations and generating employment
for the population, but tourism can also cause disadvantages, because it can
cause the loss of cultural heritage or ecological degradation.
Tourism can generate an increase in the income of the local population due to
the fact that over time the infrastructure of some destinations increases rapidly,
better management plans are developed and the visit of tourists increases, this
allows the local population to they create new sources of work both by working
on the new infrastructure created and by selling their handicrafts to tourists in
small squares or undertakings created by them.
Tourism also has a negative side, as the increase in infrastructure creates
environmental impacts such as architectural impact due to the creation of
buildings that are not in accord with the environment, thus generating a loss of
cultural heritage. The large hotel chain constructions would use a large part of
the houses and heritage sites for the creation of establishments. All this would
ocacionaría the loss of the cultural patrimony of some tourist destinies of the
country if they do not count on a policy to avoid it.
Another of the impacts that tourism in Ecuador can generate in the future is
ecological degradation, because the massive visit of tourists to the Protected
Natural Areas that the country has will be affected by the overload of visitors,
generating that the flora and fauna of these destinations is affected, this causes
ecosystems to lose their characteristics, generating that many species of flora
and fauna are in danger of extinction or disappear.
