Name of Activity: Tissue Paper Popcorn

Concept(s): (What specific concepts/ideas will the children learn from completing this activity? Concepts learned may be directly related to the theme, as
well as indirectly teaching something else.)

The children will be crumpling pieces of tissue paper into a ball and glueing them onto a piece of paper that
has the outline of a popcorn bucket on it. The children will be using their fine motor skills within this
activity.

Objective(s): (Remember to include all three parts for each objective: what the children will be given, what they will do with what they’re given, and to
what level they’ll be able to complete the activity.)

The children will be given tissue paper to crumple into pieces of “popcorn”, and will glue the pieces of the
template together to the best of their ability.

Materials Needed to Complete This Activity

Available:

Yellow construction paper


Glue

Yellow and white tissue paper

Preparation: (What do you need to do to prepare for this activity BEFORE the children arrive?)

I will lay out the items needed to complete the lesson. The background for the popcorn and the bucket will
be on the table for the children to glue together and then add the tissue paper. I will have glue and stacks of
tissue paper out on the table. I will also lay out markers for them to color the bucket and write their name
in the center as well as the number of pieces of “popcorn” in their bucket. I will cut out the pieces at home
and then set up during enhancement.

Procedures: (In great detail, explain how to complete the activity. Your instructions should be good enough for someone else to teach the activity if
you are not here.)

The children will first glue the precut yellow construction paper to the bucket. Then they will create the
pieces of popcorn out of pieces of white and yellow tissue paper. They will take one sheet and crumple it
into a ball and glue it onto the yellow construction paper. The children can add as many pieces of popcorn
as they want. They will be able to color the bucket and write their name in the center. Lastly, they will
count their pieces of “popcorn” and write that in the center as well. They will complete this to the best of
their ability.

Closure/Transition: (How will you end this activity?)

I will ask the children open ended questions like if they like eating popcorn. I will also ask them to count
the pieces of popcorn they added.
