Components of a Hernia

- Protrusion of a peritonial sac by an organ or tissue through a cavity


- Musculoaponeurotic barrier (e.g. abdominal wall)
- A fascial defect, an opening
- Increased risk with structural weakness or intra-abdominal pressure
- Some of the complications associated with Hernias are
- Incarceration and strangulation in which the blood supply of trapped
structures may be compromised or cut-off
