ENGLISH

You were rummaging through your Grandmother’s old trunk when you came across as antique
box. It caught your attention and you opened it. It was full of diamonds of all sizes and scintillating
hues. Bewildered you ran to your grandmother with the box. She told you an interesting story.

Recount the story in not more than 150 words.

You may begin with the cue –

I opened my Grandmother’s trunk and inside I found ……….


Note :

1. Read the chapter ‘The Diamond Maker’ from your literature reader. You may incorporate
hints from it.
2. Give your story a title.
3. The story should have a moral.
4. Incorporate in your story -

Three dialogues, One simile, Two examples of alliteration, Two idioms,


Two proverbs, Six adjectives, Three adverbs

5. At the end of the story make a neat table of all Parts of Speech and Figures of Speech used.
6. Underline the dialogues.

MATHS

When I opened my Grandmother’s trunk, I found some puzzles in it. I decided to solve them as a
challenge!!

Paste the cut outs of the crossword and the Maths Lab Activity on one pastel sheet.

Triangular Pyramid

Step 1 : Find the cube root of numbers in the pyramid. Then colour it appropriately.

Step 2 : Cut out the design and paste it on a pastel sheet and then fold it along the dotted
lines into a triangular pyramid.

‘I opened my Grandmother’s trunk’ and inside I found a toy belonging to my father which was a
bird cage thaumatrope demonstrating the ‘persistence of vision’.

Surprise your father by recreating that toy, causing the illusion that the bird is inside the cage when
really, they are two separate pictures.

CHEMISTRY

When I opened my Grandmother’s trunk, I found the following things :

 A diamond studded gold necklace.


 A small pouch having gold coins.
 Some utensils made of copper and brass.

A few questions arose in my mind. Help me by writing the answers of the following :

1. Give the outline of metallurgy of gold.


2. How is the purity of gold measured?
3. What is meant by 18 carat, 22 carat and 24 carat gold?
4. Gather information on the crystalline allotropes of carbon namely – diamond, graphite and
fullerene. Paste pictures of the structure and arrangement of particles in these allotropes. Also
outline their unique properties.
5. What is an alloy? Explain in detail how brass is formed.

Note : Present the holiday homework in a scrap file.

BIOLOGY
You discover in the attic while playing hide and seek, an old trunk with saris and drawings. Curious
you wish to learn more about these silk/cotton 6 yard fabrics and the art on farming and ways of doing
various agricultural practices. So prepare a project file (3 – 4 A4 sheets) on

i) Silk Industry in India


OR
ii) The old traditional/modern methods of farming in modern India.

HISTORY

‘I opened my Grandmother’s trunk and inside I found the newspaper of 1947’.

 Recreate the same newspaper on an handmade A3 size sheet.


 Creativity and content will be the criteria for evaluation.

Make a list of things on a A3 size pastel sheet that you found in your Grandmother’s trunk.
Classify them into natural and human made resources. Then sub – classify natural resources on
the basis of their origin, development renewability and distribution. Also, trace the natural source
from which the human made things are made.

 Animation characters (Doraemon, Dorayaki and Shin Chan) – Write about them and stick
pictures.

SPANISH

When I opened my Grandmother’s trunk I found a booklet/scrapbook on famous Spanish Speaking


Singers.

Prepare a booklet or a scrapbook on famous Spanish Speaking Singers. They can be from Spain
or Latin America. There should be at least 15 Singers in it and write 3 – 4 lines in Spanish about
them.

COMPUTERS

Make a web site on the topic “I opened grandmother’s trunk and inside I found….” that includes 2
web pages with following specifications:

1) First page (Home page) should contain story with a link (named to know more … click here)
to the next page. Background image should be used.
2) Second page should contain picture of all the items found in the trunk, with all items to be
written in the form of list. Each item of list should be internally linked with their picture.
