The history of Romanian, controversal subject in Maude
Parkinson's book
The history of Romania is a contrversal topic, that is intensely
debated by both authors foreign authors. Two books dealing with the history of Romanians are " 20 years in Romania" by Maude Parkinson and " Amintiri" by Radu Rosetti.
The Maude Parkinson's book present a defense for Romanian, its
inhabitans, its political ideals and its rapid integration into civilized Europe thought a monarchy that actively works and forgets the importance of modernizing society. Written over a period of 20 years it also presents us the Romanian imagology, namely the study of origin and function of characteristics of others countries and peoples.
Althouht M. Parkinson has good opinions about Romanians this
does mean that ihnores the negative realities at that time such as the choices that are fraudulent the educational system that was full of gaps. A common feature that both his Parkinson's book and his Rossetti's book are the ethnic stereotyping namely the system of belief about typical characteristics of members of a ethnic grow or nationality. The ethnicities discussied in the two books are the Gypsies and Jews. In Rosetti's book, Mihail Sturdza imposes restrictions on Jews, and the Gypsies are being violently treated with brutal physical corrections. On the other hand, in his book Maude, the Gypsies are considered an ethno with exotic living, and without Jews, there is no such hostility from the natives.
In conclusion, in both books, but especially in the book of Maude
Parkinson, we describe Romania, with its good parts, but also with the least pleasant ones.
