SPT:

 With addition to the subsurface investigations SPT is also used for the liquefaction
potential of the sandy soils.
 It is used to determine the penetration resistance of the ground represented by the N-
value.
 Usually SPT borings do not go deeper than 60m.
 It is used to determine soil properties, soil analysis, deep foundation designs and dynamic
soil properties.

Limitations of Standard Penetration Test:


SPT blow count is inversely proportional to the energy delivered. (Schmmertman).
N can very 30 to 80 percent only by one variable that is energy transfer.
Factors affecting the reproducibility of the results include
 Personnel
 Equipment
 Procedure
Energy ratio decreases with the increase in number of turns of the rope.
