Lesson idea implementation: The students will be introduced to the lesson and directed to watch the
tutorial video on BrainPop that is associated with the Energy and Food Pyramid. The teacher will watch
together with the class and further explain any confusing parts as well as answer any questions. Students will
take notes over the video and answer questions from the teacher as a class. The teacher will assess the
learning of the students by the answers they provide as a group. After the video is watched, the students will
be directed to the Food Chain video also located on BrainPop. Students will follow the same instructions from
the previous video. After both videos have been watched and questions have been answered, students will
be directed to the Food Chain Game located on BrainPop. They will work together in groups to correctly put
together food chains. The teacher will walk around and assess the students and be there for any groups that
have questions or get stuck. This lesson will provide a diverse learning style that offers instructional videos as
well as instructional games to become more familiar with the learning content. In order to extend the
students’ learning to a higher learning level, the teacher will challenge the groups to create their own food
chain. At the end of the lesson, groups will check with the teacher for accuracy and then share their food
chain with the class. The teacher will further explain to the class how and why the food chain is correct.

Reflective Practice: I feel that the activities within this lesson plan will have a positive impact on student
learning. The lesson offers a variety of learning styles and offers a fun and more engaging way for the
students to learn while using technology. This lesson is a fun introduction to Food Chains and Energy
Pyramids which will be studied in more detail in further lessons. Technology is such a helpful tool to use for
student learning. I will continue to implement instructional software any way I can in further lessons over
Energy Pyramid and Food Chain as well as other topics for the rest of the school year.
