Mario Finzi was born in Bologna in the summer of 1913. His father, Almerigo(1872-1947), taught Literature
at ‘’Minghetti’’ the city’s High School; his mother, Ebe Castelfranchi (1893- 1983), a former student of his.
Both of his parents were assimilated Jews from Emilia Romagna. After a civil marriage in september 1912,
they gave life to a typical italian jewish- middle class family of the early 1900s, establishing the first
residence in XII Giugno street, which was the neighbourhood that later would be defined by fascist press a
‘’small corner of Tel Aviv in the middle of Bologna’’.
