The half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) is a measure of the effectiveness of a substance

in inhibiting a specific biological or biochemical function.

This quantitative measure indicates how much of a particular drug or other substance (inhibitor) is
needed to inhibit a given biological process (or component of a process, i.e. an enzyme, cell, cell
receptor or microorganism) by half. The values are typically expressed as molar concentration.

Mean Percentage

Take the sum of all of the numbers divided by the number of numbers. So if you have the numbers
1,2,3,4, and 5 you would calculate the sum to be 15, then divide by 5 (the number of numbers) to get
3.

From there you want to calculate percentage. So for there to be a percentage you would have to
have 3 out of (some number). Lets say that these numbers were scores on a 5 question test. You
have a mean score of 3, now to calculate percentage divide your mean by the total (3/5) and multiply
by 100. The mean percentage is 60%.

Alternatively, you can turn all of the scores into percentages before you calculate the mean and it will
get you the same answer.

Solvent:

Procedure

1. The plants were air dried at room temperature after collection. The dried samples were crushed
by using a blender. Dried and crushed samples were soaked in 100% ethanol for three days and
then filtered by using filter paper.
2. The filtrate (crude ethanolic fraction) was concentrated by using rotary evaporation and
reserved for solvent partitioning. Thereafter, the air dried samples were dissolved in dimethyl
sulfoxide (DMSO) to a concentration of 4 mg/mL for use in the subsequent assay

How to obtain concentration?

The 4 mg/mL extracts were serially diluted to concentrations 1 000 mg/mL, 500 mg/mL, 250 mg/mL
and 125 mg/mL in a master dilution plate (MDP)
