Brief Profile of Saudi Arabia

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is located in Western Asia and

considered the fifth largest country in the world, with the size of
830,000 square miles or about 2,150,000 square kilometers.
Saudi Arabia government is in the form of absolute monarchy,
founded in 1932 by Ibn Saud. The current king of Saudi Arabia
is Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Prince Mohammad bin Nayef as
the current crown prince in line. Saudi Arabia’s judiciary system
follows strict Sharia law and recognizes death sentence.

Arabian Desert dominates most of Saudi Arabia’s geography,

with only 0.7% of water bodies in the entire area. Saudi Arabia
does not have any lakes or rivers, and its most fertile areas are
usually located around oases and wadis. There is also an area in
the southern part of the country called Rub’ al Khali, which
means “Empty Quarter” and consists of large continuous desert
area. Saudi Arabia has desert climate with high temperature
during the day and very low temperature during the night.
Typical animals are, such as, striped hyenas, hares, Arabian
wolves, sand rats, and various species of lizards and snakes.

The main language in Saudi Arabia is Arabic, and non-Muslim

people usually consist of foreign workers. Saudi Arabian culture
is derived from Arab civilizations, mostly in the form of
calligraphy, Bedouin poetry, collective musical performance,
and camel racing. Most celebrations in Saudi Arabia are
religious celebrations. Basic education and books are also
dominated by religious teaching. However, football, sailing,
scuba diving and windsurfing are also popular in Saudi Arabia,
played by men and women.
