The different aspects of karate practice will be listed, as well as the rules of our dojo, and some basic terminology. It should be stressed that this in not a.... “ Here’s how you do karate book.” This manual is just a guideline for a student to use as a reference for his or her own personal training. A student should read this manual thoroughly. Take time once in a while to review different parts of your training. You are encouraged to add to your manual on a regular basis. As your own personal training experiences grow, you should keep an ongoing record of what you are learning so that your manual will become your own personal journal. Robert Imani Starks - Master Instructor ALL - CITY KARATE STUDIO SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO GOALS Our program objectives are to aid students in obtaining concentration, self-discipline and self-confidence. In this program we hope to promote good health and long life. All students will be encouraged to work cooperatively with instructors and fellow students to meet the stated objectives. Over the next several classes, we will study a variety of techniques. In the beginning we will concentrate only on those techniques that are simple to learn, flexible enough to allow the student to use them in a variety of situations and most importantly highly effective. DOJO KUN ( philosophy ) In our practice of Karate-do, may we develop patience, sincerity, honesty, courage, humility, brotherhood/sisterhood, and wisdom. DOJO ETIQUETTE Students should observe the training schedule. Try not to be late. Always address an instructor as Sensei. ‘When entering or leaving the dojo, bow respectfully toward the front. Always be polite to your instructors, senior students and elders. Be aware of your physical condition. Remove all personal jewelry such as rings, watches, chains, etc. before practice since they can cause injury to yourself or others. 7. When training begins, no one is allowed to leave the training floor without the instructor’s permission. 8. Donot eat just before coming to practice. a PP
