THE ORDER OF WORSHIP

The Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany PRELUDE Meditation on My Faith Looks up to Thee Wells

Holy Communion IV TOWER BELLS

INVOCATION

All may stand and make the sign of the cross, the sign with which we are
marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.
INTRODUCTION
In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The glory of God is often revealed when and where it is least expected. God
uses our lips to declare that glory, inexperienced and hesitant though they GATHERING SONG: Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee (ELW 836)

exercise it. God uses Jesus of Nazareth, water and the word, bread and APOSTOLIC GREETING
wine, to reveal God’s glory where and when God chooses. Take heed, lest
the glory of God slip through our midst unnoticed. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of

As a worship courtesy, we ask that you please turn off or set to vibrate all
cellular telephones and pagers during the worship service.

We ask that all present today please fill out the Attendance and Communion
registration card found in your bulletin and place it in the offering plate so
that we may record your presence with us.

PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW

A prayer attributed to Francis of Assisi

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow
love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where
there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness,
light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be
consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to
love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are
pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
8
Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver you,
says the LORD.”
9
Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said
to me,
“Now I have put my words in your mouth.
10
See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to pull down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”

The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Silence for reflection on the reading.

PSALM 71:1-6

Almighty and ever-living God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and
love; and that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you
