Reflection

Revising my essay from sophomore year, I faced multiple, well intended, grammatical

errors. My language and style of writing lacked the most proficiency, out of focus and

development, however, now as a senior I have improved these skills. The use of fancy, big words

I tried to incorporate in order to advance my writing was not effective in explaining my claim. I

often did not make sense, therefore I simplified my wording. Staying short and concise, I have

learned, is the best approach when writing an essay in order for the reader to best comprehend

my argument. I also integrated high level grammatical techniques, such as parallel structure,

which appeals to the reader and helps the flow of the essay. There were many careless

punctuational errors, as well, that were alarming to me. Such as, improperly using commas and

quotation marks. I also made corrections to change subject-verb agreement errors which greatly

affected the clarity of my writing. In all, I believe, now, I am more equipped with the

fundamentals of English writing to write more advanced and comprehensible essays. As a senior,

I am more aware of my word choice and sentence structure necessary to write a well-developed

essay.
