Benito Pérez Galdos

Novelist and playwright, maximum representative - along with Leopoldo Alas Clarín,
"Clarín" - of the realist current that dominated the Spanish narrative of the second
half of the 19th century, Pérez Galdós is unanimously recognized as one of the
greatest novelists of literature in language Castilian. It was born in the middle of a
family of the middle class of Las Palmas, son of a military man. He received a rigid
and religious education, which did not prevent him from entering into contact, from a
very young age, with liberalism, a doctrine that guided the first steps of his political
career.
