Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910) (1915) was the 1917 Pulitzer Prize-
winning biography about the life of Julia Ward Howe (/author/julia-
ward-howe/bio-books-stories), written by her daughters, Laura E.
Richards (/author/laura-e-richards/bio-books-stories) and Maud
Howe Elliott. Assisted by third daughter, Florence Howe Hall. Julia
Ward Howe was an abolitionist, poet, and travel writer, best
remembered for penning the Union's most popular song during the
American Civil War (/civil-war-stories), The Battle Hymn of the
Republic (/author/julia-ward-howe/poem/the-battle-hymn-of-the-

it in our collection of Pulitzer Prizes (/pulitzer-prizes#pulitzer-
