A ship would leave one of the ports of Western Europe , perhaps Liverpool in
England or Nantes in France with cotton goods , firearms and iron bars , to
exchange for slaves in a port of West Africa , such as Cape Coast or Gorèe.
The ship would then transport the slaves across the Atlantic by a voyage known
as the “middle passage” to ports such as Bridgetown in Barbados , Kingston
in Jamaica or Cap Francais in St. Dominique, and sell them for sugar .
This paper will closely examine the reasons for the adverse negative imapct of
the Triangular trade system on the West African society and to seem of these
impacts can be seen up to today.
Rationale
I choose this topic because of the many adverse negative impact the
Triangular slave trade had on the West African society which have left a huge
mark which can be seen up to today .
The main focus will be on the social , physical and political impact it
had on the society . It is my intention to demonstrate that due to the
pursuit of power and wealth by the Europeans, it resulted in the massive
exportation of Africans out of their homeland and into Europe to be the
new labor force for the sugar cultivation .
