4.

Area of the Square = 6 x 6 = 36 cm2

𝑥 2 + 3 2 = 62

𝑥 2 = 62 − 32

𝑥 = √62 − 32 = √36 − 9 = √27 = 3√3 𝑐𝑚

1 1
Area of triangle = 2 𝑏ℎ = 2 (6)(3√3) = 9√3 𝑐𝑚2

Total Area of Shaded Region = Area of the Square – Area of the triangle = 36 cm2– 9√3 𝑐𝑚2 ≈ 20.41154𝑐𝑚2

5. If the diagonal of a cube is 4√3 𝑐𝑚, what is the volume of the cube?

Solution:

Now volume of a cube is 𝑉𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = 𝑠 3 where s is the length of the side.

But the diagonal of a cube is 𝑑𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = 𝑠√3 where s is the length of the side.

So,

𝑑𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 4√3
𝑠= = =4
√3 √3
Then

𝑉𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑒 = 𝑠 3 = 43 = 64
5. The surface area of the right prism with equilateral triangular bases with 4 units long edges is

SA = Area of the 2 equilateral triangles + Area of the 3 squares

1
= ( 𝑏ℎ) × 2 + 𝑠 2 × 3
2
1
= ( {4}{√42 − 22 }) × 2 + 42 × 3
2

1
= ( {4}{√16 − 4}) × 2 + 16 × 3
2
= 2√12 × 2 + 16 × 3

= 4√12 + 48

= 8√3 + 48 ≈ 61.8564 𝑠𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑠
