One of Scandinavia's oldest and largest architec-
tural practices, CF MoUer has been attracting
plenty of headlines in the UK.
In September it won a competition run by the
RIBA to revamp a Victorian hospital in south-west
London, beating the likes ofAHMM, Allies &
Morrison, Penoyre & Prasad and Reiach & Hall.
Work has already begun designing new in-
patient accommodation at tbe Springfield Univer-
sity Hospital in Tooting. Other big wins included
an ideas competition for tbe development of
Sykkylven town centre in Norway. Meanwhile,
work completed on Sweden's new national stadi-
um, the Friends Arena, and on the Sogn & Fjor-
dane Art Museum in Forde, Norway, whose design
was inspired by a glacier.
The practice also finished renovating and
extending Denmark's oldest acting school, the
1847 Solvgades Skole, in Copenhagen.
It has been shortiisted in a team with
Foster & Partners for one of the world's largest
research facilities in southern Sweden, which is
due to open in 2019. Rival teams include HOK
with Bjarke Ingcls Group, Tenghom and
Henning Larsen.

It was the year that almost a decade of work on the
Olympic Park in London reached its climax. Allies
Sc Morrison was one of four practices appointed to
prepare a masterplan for the Olympic bid in 2003.
More commissions were to follow. In 2007 it was
appointed architect for structures, bridges and
highways (one of the largest Olympic projects, with
avalué of £673 million), working with engineers
Amp and Atkins to develop the park's infrastruc-
ture. This involved the design of 19 permanent and
14 temporary bridges, four underpasses, roads,
retaining structures and utilities enclosures.
It also designed the main press centre for 5,800
journalists and, as part of Team Populous, it was
also appointed to design the "overlay" at the park.
Looking ahead, the practice was also asked to
joindy lead the legacy masterplan. A planning
application was submitted last year.
Meanwhile, the practice came close to a share in
Stirling Prize glory when the Rothschild bank
headquarters in the City of London was shortiisted
last year. Allies & Morrison was the executive
architect for OMA.

tice busy in Britain. Big wins included a regenera-
tion strategy and indicative masterplan for liba of
unused land at London's City Airport.
Managing partner Jo Bacon said that while resi-
dential and commercial were significant sectors
for the practice, it was proud to have a number of
cultural projects on its books. Tbese include the
newly opened Royal Albert Memorial Museum in
Exeter, the indoor Jacobean Tbeatre at Shake-
speare's Globe and the Rambert Dance School,
both of which are due to complete in 2014.
International work continues to grow; currentiy
generating 12.5% of the practice's work. In Doha
three projects that form part of the Msheireb mas-
terplan are nearing completion. The practice also
submitted the winning entry to design Helsinki
South Harbour.

The architectural arm of Ireland's multi-discipli-
nary PM Group works mainly in Britain, central
and eastern Europe and the Middle East where it
has been finding Saudi Arabia a particularly strong
market. Its biggest sectors are healthcare, educa-
tion and the private seetor.
It picks up work from its parent company in the
biopharma sector (where clients include GSK); in
advance manufacture for IT firms such as Apple;
and in food production (Coca-Cola).
The financial crisis holds no fear for PM Group,
which was founded in Cork during the recession of
the early 1970s. Its first clients came from a 10-mile
radius and PM and Devereux have gradually
expanded round the world by following them.
Some of Devereux's current projects include a
radiotherapy facility at Poole Hospital; a motorway
serviee station in Surrey; a primary school near its
Putney office; and a £45 million neuroscience
institute in south-east London.
Meanwhile its redevelopment and extension of
Frimley Park Hospital's A&E department in Surrey
won praise from education secretary and local MP
Michael Gove.
Its apparent grovrth and move up the rankings is
explained by the fact that Devereux did not record
its foreign-based architects last year.
