Problem scenario

The researcher is currently a MAPEH major student in College of Teacher Education. Based on their
experience and observation in the school setting where they studied in public secondary school, there is
a need to improve the teaching of MAPEH specifically the Arts so that students may be equally
motivated to participate in designed activities in This subject as in other subject areas. The utmost
involvement in this subject will help the set as an equilibrium or balnce in their educational activities.
Hence, an improvement in the teaching of Arts in the secondary schools will also be instrumental in the
the total development of the students which is the primary goal of education along with that of
preparing nthe students for active and productive citizenship.

Martin stated that knowledge, judgement and skills are aspects that are necessary for effective pactice.
Knowledge encompasses all that has been perceived and grasped by the human mind; its scope and
range are infinite. Knowledge maybe acquired by the teachers ut becomes more enriched when
supplemented by opportunity to work in a teacher-student relationship.

Definition of terms

Teaching competencies

- It refers to the teachers knowledge in the subject matter and skikls in instructional
methodologies. In this study, this refers to the teaching expertise considering all the variables
covered.

Program of activities

- Program refers to agenda of line up of activities (Microsoft thesaurus, 2010)

the term applies toone of the factors of teaching competence in MAPEH. These include the
different school and out of school activities designed to attain the objectives in the subject area.
