Pride Product Approval Form x YY we Submitted to Product Approval Committee We v Name Janey Krehnbrink Date (s) submitted 9 October 2018 Research Topie / Area of Study Orthopedics Connection to research paper Which aspect of the paper are you focusing on to create this product? How will it show what you learned in the process? Lam focusing on the education aspect of my paper. By placing the posters in the locker room (for athletes and those participating in Physical Education classes), I will specifically target the “sports medicine” subspecialty discussed under the education sector (neck and back issues fall largely on sports medicine specialists and physical therapists). In doing this, I will demonstrate my understanding of the information I found on EBSCO. Goal of product / what problem or need solved or addressed ‘What are you planning to achieve? How does this product improve upon or help solve an existing issue within the field? The goal of my product is to increase awareness of “Tech neck,” or worsening posture in teens as a result of the use of technology like phones and computers. As a result of looking downward at tech devices, teens’ postures are constantly declining This has a plethora of effects, including back and neck pain (and even deformation) that can carry on into adulthood, hindered performance in sports and other activities, poor blood. circulation, stress on other areas of the body (and in the mind) and even lower self-confidence. | feel like this problem is not, addressed enough at our school, especially with the heavy reliance on technology and low heights of the desks. Estimated time to complete Depending on the material I use, designing and creating the infographic will take approximately 4-5 weeks. People who will assist (if applicable) My mentor, Todd Mclaughlin, as well as Pine Lake Preparatory administration will assist me in the making of these posters. © Mentor- most prominent problems he sees on a day-to-day basis in regards to teens’ posture; hospital statistics * PLP administration- availability of wall space in locker room; permission to hang posters; using 3-D printers Estimated cost / investment ‘List what you will need and what it will cost. © Statistics and data (websites, book and hospital statistics, free) © Design program (online, free) © Accessibility to needed materials to print and hang poster © Poster itself © Glass/Piber glass gallery frame display with ‘metal pegs © Adhesive/Nails/Drill © Approx. $100 ¢ 34D Printer Access (Unknown cost) ‘What will judges see at presentation? Put yourself in the place of the judges. When you show them/hand it to them, what all will they see. Detail it, What does a successful product look ike? ‘At the presentation, the judges will see pictures of the posters hanging in the locker room, with a small replica of what they look like at hand. They will also see my 3-D model of “Tech Neck.” I will prepare a presentation discussing PLP interest poll about posture ‘© My motivation to spread awareness: I have bad posture and know from first-hand experience (and my mentor) that itis a rising issue in the field of orthopedics Design, creation and installation process ‘© What I hope will change as a result of the project © Better posture or increased awareness of posture among middle and high school students [will also work with administration to use the 3-D printer to print a replica of the spine to display what “Tech neck” is and why it needs to be avoided. Following this, I will create a video of high school students’ reactions to the neck and their experience with posture and technology. Personal stretch (area of growth) ‘Why is this a challenge for you? What will be difficult? What will you learn for the first time? Etc. Pursuing this project will be challenging for me in many regards. Itwill be a challenge for me to obtain all the data I need to make the posters “convincing.” It will also be difficult to design an infographic that balances visually appeal with accurate and applicable information that grasps the audience’s (teenager's) attention. I will also need to raise money to pay for the posters which will not be easy. Finally, the installation process will be difficult because I will be dealing with breakable materials that need to be mounted very precisely. The most challenging aspect, of the whole project will be designing and 3-D printing a replica of the human spine, as I have not had much experience with 3-D printers (though I have worked with CAD) and will need to ‘work with an outside program or Pine Lake teachers to gain their expertise to properly execute this part of the project. Ultimately, the project will require lots of networking, a skill that I currently lack and hope to grow in the duration of the project. Product Description (Include how you will you provide evidence of original work and development - photos, plans, drafting, ete.): ‘Two posterss (approximately 2 ft x 3 ft) enclosed/sandwiched in two sheets of glass/flexiglass/fiberglass mounted on the walls with four metal pegs each. I will show “behind the scenes” footage when filming the video 2 sky get Vann printed mi en ora -Doit Vin DD Act. \Love Qhis Tdea!.
