2406G Instruction Manual Section 3 Operation Overview For the best engine performance and the least amount of downtime, engine operators should perform the inspections described later in this section. Itis the joint responsibility of the operators and maintenance personnel to maintain a log book for the engine Record the following information in the log book: Engine serial number and model Daily hour meter reading Trips and alarms that have occurred Service procedures performed Quantities of engine oil and water or coolant used Dates of oil and water or coolant changes ooeoe Any changes in the operation of the engine, including exhaust gas color, noises, sta- bility, vibration, etc. A sample log sheet has been included at the end of this section. Inspections Daily Perform the following inspections every day. Record the results in the engine log book. If you find a problem, investigate the cause and make the appropriate corrections. (See Section 5, Maintenance, for instructions.) These inspections are to be performed while the engine is running. 1. Check Fluid Levels: a. Lube oil b. Jacket water surge tank and Intercooler surge tank. Cooper Energy Services m_Alax-Superiot d0300002,doc Page 3-1 SUPERION- Sa eeSSSSSSeeee 2. Look for evidence of crankcase pressure. 14. Check the air filter restriction gauge (if equipped). 15. Check air intake system (drain cock located on manifold) for fluids. When Stopping The Engine 1. Abnormal turbocharger bearing noises. 2. Alarm and trip status. Weekly Perform the following inspections once a week. Record the results in the engine log book. If you find a problem, investigate the cause and make the appropriate corrections. (See Section 5, Maintenance, for instructions.) These inspections can be performed after the engine is shut down. 1. Lube oil: Look for signs of water contamination and abnormal colorations. 2. Jacket water: Take a sample and have it analyzed. Adjust the treatment concentration as needed. 3. Drain condensed water from the starting system. Engine Operation Read and heed the following warnings. Review the section “Warnings, Cautions, and Notes” in the front of this instruction manual. Do not operate the engine if you do not understand any of the warnings. @ Make sure no one is near or on the engine when it is being started. ® Do not attempt to restart an engine after a safety shut down has occurred; deter- mine the problem that cause the shutdown and correct it first. During and after operation the turbocharger exhaust pipes are hot. Do not touch them. Service the turbochargers only when the engine is cool. © Avoid shutting down an overheated engine with the load still applied. Cooper Energy Sewices_m Ajax-Superior d0300002.doc Page 3-3
