President’s Letter:
Prior to introducing myself, I’d first
like to publicly thank Tim Weir for
his years of service as the
President of Big Sauk Lake
Association. I know that all
members of BSLA agree that your
leadership has been very much appreciated, and
the association is better off due to your efforts.
My name is Mike Disher and I’m the newly
elected President of BSLA. One of my duties is
to write this little update for each newsletter to
give you a summary of some of the happenings
around the lake and of your lake association.
My wife (Debbie) and I are retired and although
we’ve been summertime weekend warriors at Big
Sauk Lake since the 1970’s (earlier for her), we
just built a new home on the mid-western shore
of the north basin of Big Sauk Lake in 2017. We
love it here, and we care deeply about making
Big Sauk Lake the very best it can possibly be,
and about helping us all be able to enjoy the
activities we all love. Whether it is fishing,
boating, swimming, enjoying the amazing sunrises
and sunsets...or some other activity...I encourage
everyone to get involved to help preserve and
improve this incredible gift we all enjoy.
Aside from being the current President, another
one of my jobs is to keep the website updated.

you have any ideas of what would make the web
site more useful, feel free to drop an email to
bigsauk@gmail.com and we’ll gladly give you an
ear.
I’ve also developed an interest in aquatic
invasive species, including those pesky zebra
mussels we just discovered in Big Sauk Lake
this past fall. I try hard to keep updated on
those issues to the best of my ability and time.

WINTER EDITION 2019
One important development you should know
about is that after discussions at our annual
meeting and subsequent board meetings, BSLA
will no longer be responsible for the two
emergency weather sirens on the north and
northeast side of the lake. This is not a business
lake associations should be in, and with our dues
at only $25/year for both business and individuals,
it is a stress on our budget we can’t afford to
continue. Local townships have been advised, so
if you wish these to be maintained, feel free to
contact your township board and let them know
your wishes.
It is my pleasure to let you know, in case you
haven’t followed the news or our Facebook feed,
that BSLA in conjunction with Rex Campbell,
Tim Adams and others, was successful in recent
weeks in removing over 19 tons of invasive
common carp from Big Sauk Lake. These fish
destroy a fishery and their nurturing vegetation
in multiple ways, so it’s wonderful to see these
efforts bear fruit. A huge thank you to BSLA Vice
President Jeff Mayer, who worked as the
coordinator of the event as it happened, and
Tim Weir who helped arrange all the necessary
agreements and permits.
In closing, this is the time of the year we begin
our membership drive. We encourage you to fill
out the application here in this newsletter, and to
encourage your neighbors to make sure they do
the same. The more participation we get from
the lakeshore owners and interested parties, the
better job we can all do of helping to “Make Big
Sauk Lake a
Better Place”.

On these two pages is a listing of BSLA Residential and Business members who paid membership dues for
the calendar year 2018. Big Sauk Lake Association (BSLA) continues to enjoy a strong participation level
from property owners around the lake. In 2018, 248 or a little over 50 percent of Big Sauk Lake property own-
ers joined BSLA and carried the financial and volunteer time burden for our lake. However, there are approxi-
mately 246 other properties that were not represented in our membership.
If you were a BSLA member in 2018 and plan on extending your membership in 2019, THANK YOU! And
please encourage your neighbors to also support the BSLA so that we can all continue to enjoy the activities
around the lake and invest in its future. If you were not a member in 2018, please consider joining. We are
working to protect ALL PROPERTIES around the lake, including yours.
