Codependency: a mental health issue

In the recent months, people have been talking about murders of women and how codependent
relationships are related with this. Codependency is originated when a person depends strongly on
the opinion and approval of the other person.

Firstly, what we should do if we want to identify if we or another person shows some signs of
codependency is to observe if we always look for the opinion or approval of the other person
within the relationship. Other sign is that we can’t stand a minute without the other person. Those
are signs that must be taken into consideration and we should be aware of them.

One of the advises to reduce the codependency in our relationships is to enhance our self-esteem.
The lack of this will originate that we wouldn’t be able to take decisions by ourselves and be
autonomous. Furthermore, it is important to be aware of our obsession with the relationship and
start looking for some psychological help, this will be helpful to overcome this situation.

It’s important to point out that some research have showed that women are twice as likely to
develop codependent relationships as men. The main reason is because women develop them
relationship in a more social part of them brains.

To summarize, it is very important to develop self-esteem since we were kids and also it is
important to attend mental health support. Furthermore, if we notice that in our relationships
someone has developed codependency we should be part of the solution instead of allowing this
sort of behavior.
