Standards Covered:
Math:
Standard 8.G.9

Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to
solve real-world and mathematical problems.

Understandings:
Knowing the outside measurements of a 3D shape can help you determine how much
space is inside.

Essential Questions:
Can you figure out how much space is inside of a 3D shape?

Learning Activities:
● First we will go over the formulas for volume of cylinders, spheres, and cones
● As a class we will do an example of each shape
● In groups of 3-4 students they will find the volume of each of the 3 shapes

Assessment Evidence:
● They will present to the class, using the whiteboard, how they found the volume of one
of their shapes.

Materials needed:
7 cone shaped objects, 7 sphere shaped objects, 7 cyllinder shaped objects, rulers,
calculators, whiteboard markers & eraser, Paper, Pencils,
