THE EFFECT OF WET CUPPING TO BLOOD CHOLESTEROL LEVELS

IN STUDENTS OF MADRASAH ALIYAH ISLAMIC CENTER BIN BAZ

ABSTRACT
Background: Hypercholesterolemia is the condition of abnormalities in the blood
lipid profile. Increasing levels of non-HDL lipid causes constriction of blood
vessels (atherosclerosis). In Indonesia, the population mean age > 15 years found
abnormal total cholesterol about 35.9%. National proportion of the population
with the behavior of consumption of fatty foods, cholesterol and fried foods ≥ 1
times per day about 40.7%. Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY), include the
second highest consumption of cholesterol by 50.7%. Wet cupping therapy serves
to reduce the levels of fat and dangerous cholesterol (LDL) in the blood, thereby
reduce the blockage of blood vessels and increases the blood supply to the inner
layer of endothelium produces substances which a role of nitric oxide
(endothelium-derived relaxing factor) that helps stretching and dilatation of blood
vessel walls.
Objective: This study aims is to identify the effect of wet cupping therapy to
blood cholesterol levels in students of Madrasah Aliyah ICBB Islamic Boarding
School Bantul, Yogyakarta.
Methods: This study design is pre exsperiment one group pretest-posttest design.
The study population are students in Madrasah Aliyah ICBB Islamic Boarding
School, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Data collection is performed by simple random
sampling method. The subjects are 25 respondents. Intrument research used a set
of cupping and GCU meter.
Results: This study obtained significancy p value of 0.040 (p <0.050) means that
there is a difference mean of cholesterol levels before and after treatment of
cupping therapy significantly.
Conclusion: The results of this study concluded that there is a effect of wet
cupping on decrease blood cholesterol levels.
