WARNING AR550 series industrial switching routers are class A products. In a domestic environment, these products
may cause radio interference in which case the user may be required to take the adequate measures.
The AR550 has more than one power input. Disconnect all power inputs to power off this device.

CAUTION During installation and maintenance, take ESD protection measures, for example, wear ESD gloves or an ESD wrist
strap.
During router transport and installation, prevent the router from colliding with objects like doors, walls, or shelves.
Do not place other objects on the router.

NOTE The installation, connection, and login methods of AR550 series industrial switching routers are similar. This
document uses the AR550-8FE-D-H and AR550E routers as an example. For more information, see the Hardware
Installation and Maintenance Guide.
Figures in this document are for reference only and may not show the actual appearance of the router.

1
Site Environment
Do not place this product in an environment with flammable or explosive gases, or smoke.

The installation site must be free from leaking or dripping water or heavy dew. If the relative humidity is high,

use dehumidifiers or air conditioners with dehumidification features.

The installation site must be well ventilated, and the air vents of the router must not be blocked.

Do not place the router in a dusty environment.

100mm
Leave more than 100 mm clearance at two sides and the rear of the router for heat dissipation.

Installing the Router

Scenario 1: Installing the Router on a DIN Rail

1 Place the router's real panel in front of the DIN rail and ensure that the DIN rail fits in between the fixture
near the top of the router and spring latch near the bottom.

NOTE Before the installation, ensure that the DIN rail has been secured in position.
The router is placed near the DIN rail for convenient movement.

2 Make the router incline forward with the bottom away from the DIN rail, and place the fixture at the rear of
the router on the top of the DIN rail.
3 Slowly push the router toward the DIN rail to make the spring latch at the rear of the router move down.
The spring latch then bounces back to fix the router on the DIN rail.

NOTE If the spring latch is too tight to move down, you can pull down the spring latch during the installation.

2
Scenario 2: Installing the Router in a Cabinet (Using a 550 Horizontal Rack-Mounting Kit)

CAUTION There must be a clearance larger than or equal to the router's width at the left and right of the router after the
installation. The clearance above the router must be at least two times the router's height and the clearance below
the router must be greater than or equal to the router's height.

1 Install two floating nuts on each front mounting rail of the cabinet. Leave four mounting holes between the
two floating nuts on the same mounting rail.

NOTE The length of six adjacent mounting holes may not be 2 U. Observe the scale ticks on the mounting rails when
installing floating nuts.
You can use a flat-head screwdriver to install floating nuts.

2 Attach the brackets of the 550 horizontal rack-mounting kit on the front mounting rails of the cabinet and
insert M6 screws in the mounting holes. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the lower M6 screws and then
the upper ones to fix the rack-mounting kit.

3 Place the rear panel of the router in front of the DIN rail on the rack-mounting kit and ensure that the DIN
rail fits in between the fixture near the top of the router and the spring latch near the bottom.
4 Make the router incline forward with the bottom away from the DIN rail, and place the fixture at the rear of
the router on the top of the DIN rail.
5 Slowly push the router toward the DIN rail to make the spring latch at the rear of the router move down.
The spring latch then bounces back to fix the router on the DIN rail.

NOTE
If the spring latch is too tight to move down, you can use a flat-head screwdriver to hold down
the spring latch during the installation.

3
Scenario 3: Using a Vertical Rack-Mounting Bracket to Install an AR550E Router into an
F01S200 Cabinet
1 On each front mounting rail, install two floating nuts in the fifth and eighth mounting holes
counted from the left.

NOTE
You can use a flat-head screwdriver to install floating nuts.

M6 screws on the other diagonal line.

4
Connecting the Router

WARNING Do not connect cables while the power is on.

Do not power on the router before you finish connecting and routing cables.
Invisible laser beams will cause eye damage. Do not look into bores of optical modules or connectors of
optical fibers without eye protection.

NOTE
For details about pin assignments and cable connections, see the Hardware Description.

Powering On the Router

1 Ensure the following before powering on the router:

The power cables are correctly connected.
The DC input voltage is in the range of 9.6 V to 60 V.
2 Turn on the power switch of the external power supply system.
3 Check the RUN indicators. If they are in normal states, check
other indicators on the router.

Indicator Description

RUN Slow blinking green: The system is running properly.

NOTE For more information about indicators, see the Hardware Description.

Logging In to the Router

1 Use a console cable to connect a PC to the console interface of the router.

NOTE If your PC's operating system provides terminal simulation software (like HyperTerminal in Windows 2000), you do not
need to install additional terminal simulation software. If the PC runs on an operating system without terminal
simulation software (like Windows 7), install third-party terminal simulation software on the PC by referring to user
manual or online help.
A PC may have more than one serial port. Select the port connected to the console port. Generally, COM1 is used. If
you modify the serial port communication parameters on the router, modify the communication parameters on the PC
to ensure that they use the same communication parameters, and then set up the connection again.

2 Start the terminal simulation software, create a connection, specify the connected port, and set
communication parameters as follows:
Bits per second (B): 9600
Data bits (D): 8
Parity (P): None
Stop bits (S): 1
Flow control (F): None

3 Press Enter until a message is displayed asking you to enter the username and password. (The following
information is for reference only.)

NOTE The default user name is admin and the default password is Admin@huawei.

6
Login authentication
Username:admin
Password:
<Huawei>
Info: The entered password is the same as the default. You are advised to change
it to ensure security.

CAUTION If you forget the login password, restore the password according to the Troubleshooting.

After successful login, you can configure the router on the command line interface. For more information,
see the CLI-based Configuration.
To configure the router using the web system, perform the following steps (V200R005C70 and later versions
Support).

4 Connect a PC to the management interface of the router using an Ethernet cable.

5 Configure a management IP address for the router.

For example, set the management IP address to 192.168.1.1/24 on GE0/0/0.
<Huawei> system-view
[Huawei] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/0
[Huawei-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] ip address 192.168.1.1 24

Now, the management IP address of the router is set to 192.168.1.1.

6 Configure an HTTP user.

<Huawei> system-view
[Huawei] aaa
[Huawei-aaa] local-user admin password irreversible-cipher Admin@huawei
[Huawei-aaa] local-user admin privilege level 15
[Huawei-aaa] local-user admin service-type http
[Huawei-aaa] quit
[Huawei] quit

The HTTP user level is management level.

7 Configure a server SSL policy.

[Huawei] ssl policy userserver type server

[Huawei-ssl-policy-userserver] pki-realm default

8 Apply the SSL policy userserver to the HTTPS server.

[Huawei] http secure-server ssl-policy userserver

9 Enable the HTTPS server function on the router.

[Huawei] http secure-server enable
This operation will take several minutes, please
wait.........................................................
Info: Succeeded in starting the HTTPS server
[Huawei] quit

10 Configure an IP address for the PC. The IP address must be in the range of 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254.
11 Start the Internet Explorer (8.0 or later), Google Chrome (23 or later), or Mozilla Firefox (12 or later),
enter https://192.168.1.1 in the address box, and press Enter to display the login page.
12 Enter the user name admin and password Admin@huawei (case sensitive).

7
Now, you can configure the router on the web page. For more information, see the Web-based
Configuration of the product.
