• Unshielded Twisted Pair is a 100 ohm copper

cable, it consists of 2 to 1800 unshielded twisted

pairs that are surrounded by an outer jacket. They
are more prone to electrical interference because
they don’t have a metallic shield. The twist in the
wires reduce electrical noise.
• UTP is cheaper than any other methods
• Interference is lessened due to the twisting
• It is more reliable
• Poor at very high speeds
• Susceptible to radio frequency interference (RFI) and
electromagnetic interference (EMI).

• Protects the wires from electrical
interference
• They transmit data quickly, they go up
to speeds of 100 megabits
• More secure than data sent via other
cabling types.
• More expensive than UTP

• It attracts interference and makes

electrical noise louder.
• Glass or plastic cables that use light to
transmit data
• Fast
• Used over long distances
• Little interference
• Expensive
• Limited application
• Low power
• Fragility
