Brown's introduction and commentary on the "Contraternity” translation of the Gospel and Epistles of John (a translation from the Latin) was published as #13 of The Liturgical Press New Testament Reading Guide, with minor revisions made in 1965 (2 ed.) and 1982 (3d ed.). That work has now been thoroughly revised, updated, and adjusted to the New American Bible 1986 trans- lation of the New Testament, which appears atthe top of each commentary page. Thus, this constitutes virtually a new work ‘The reader is encouraged to use diligently the column of references found at the side ‘of each commentary page ae an important study tool. Por those who wish to proveed to a greater depth in the study of these Johannine writings, Raymond E. Brown is the author of long commentaris in the Doubleday Anchor Bible series on The Gospel according to John (2 vols., #29 and 29A) and The Epistles of John (#30).
