 Acute onset pelvic pain is an extremely common
presentation in premenopausal women who are
presenting to ED after excluding pregnancy in
reproductive age .Usually ultrasound plays a major
role to identify causes of acute pelvic pain
,ie hemorrhagic ovarian cysts, endometriosis,
ovarian torsion ,tubo-ovarian abscess ! .
 Our mission as radiologists is to
differentiate between condition in-order to
manage either conservatively or requiring urgent
surgical/ percutaneous intervention.

Advantages:
Safer than X-ray and CAT scans - no radiation
Doesn't cause ionising - no cancer risk.

CONS :

No as good/clear picture quality - not as


much detail.
