1) TEM: Metallic catalyst parties appear as black dots in TEM photo. The particle size can be measured
from the photo.
2) Powder X-ray: The half height width of peaks is correlated to the average size of metal particles by
the Scherrer’s eq.
3) Hydrogen adsorption: For Pt, hydrogen dessociatively adsorbs at one atom-to-one atom basis. From
the amount adsorbed on Pt, the number of Pt exposed to the surface can be estimated. Thus, the particle
size of Pt particles can be estimated.
