‘The main purpose of our meeting is to discussed the next exhibits we should consider doing.
1. The Barbecue Exhibit - Suggestion was made to focus on the Dennis family. A timeline
could be displayed showing the history of Skylight Inn and Bum’s Restaurant. Old equipment
could be putin the exhibit area. Eric Walls has done background work and should head up
this exhibit
Il. Black History Month — Using information from the presentation of Charles Becton local
leaders could be contacted to participate in a presentation at Ayden Middle School. We could
also contact local churches to feature their history hopefully with some old pictures. It was
suggested that we could contact older black citizens to have an oral history of living in
Ayden. It was suggested that Alice Parker and Victoria Killmon head up this exhibit.
II. Military Exhibit ~ The exhibit should include artifacts from the various wars that citizens of
‘Ayden/Pitt County participated in. Sammy Pierce should be included. Other citizens should
also be contacted for information. The Veteran’s Park, which focus on 20" Century Wars,
could be pictured in the exhibit. Veterans of Ayden should be highlighted from each war in
the exhibit. It was suggested that we could also go back to the Civil War time period since
some of veterans of that war lived during the time of the Town’s incorporation. ‘Tom and
‘Andrea Norris will head this exhibit.
IV. Education Exhibit — Dale Cockrell shared his timeline he has done on the education in
Ayden, He will head up this exhibit.
