Rational/Narrative Summary

In this unit, students will explore the concept of identity through personal map-making art experiences. The focus of this unit is on exploring

contemporary artists, concepts, and techniques. Students will be introduced to maps and how maps can express various forms of information.
Students will explore ideas and play with media to express themselves through map art. Students will conduct independent research on

contemporary map artists and techniques to create a Pinterest inspiration board to reference when creating their personal maps. Guided by Olivia
Gude’s Postmodern Principles, students will experiment with a variety of paper, tools, symbols, and media to create a life diagram, metaphorical
hand map and a personal geography.
