Poseidon: the most powerful god

vada Dabria
Poseidon is the god of water, earthquakes, and horses. He is also a supreme god of mount Olympus, but he spends most of his
time  in  his  domain.  This  being  said,  he  is  extremely  powerful.  He  is  brother  to  Zeus  and  hades  who  are  also  Olympic  gods.
Together  they  rule  the  three  domains of the sky, water, and underworld. Poseidon controls all water. Even Nereus, the old
man  of  the  sea  isn’t  anywhere  close  to  poseidon  in  power.  Poseidon  is  actually  married  to  Nereus’s  daughter  Amphitrite.
Amphitrite  also  happens  to  be  a  sea  nymph.  In  rome  another  name  for  Poseidon  is  Neptune.  Though  the  world  is  divided
between  the  gods  there  are  still  many  disputes  on  the  territory.  At  one  point  Athena  and  Poseidon  both  fought  to be the
deity  of  Athens,  although  Athena  won  after  she  granted  the  people  an  olive  tree.  Poseidon  gave  the  city  a  great  body  of
water,  but the people did not appreciate that it was salt water. He is also the father of our great hero Theseus, but he fights
for  that  title  with  a  man  named  Aegeus.  He  also  hold  a  strong  hatred  in  his  heart  for  the  “hero”  Odysseus,  after  his son
Polyphemus  the  Cyclopes  was blinded by the mortal. To punish Odysseus for his crimes Poseidon prolonged his journey home,
and  caused  him  great  suffering.  Poseidon  can  also  take  the  form  of  a horse and can even grant this ability to others if he
so pleases. Not to mention he is the god we pray to
for safe travels. All these things are what make Poseidon one of the best and most powerful gods.

Need Help?
Advice with Aspasia

Aspasia Alanis

Q: Hello, I've been reading this section for a while now and just recently gathered up the courage to ask for
advice. See I'm just a mortal woman from Athens, daughter of a high ranking officer, but I got involved with the
gods affairs when I fell in love with Zeus. Zeus was just so handsome and charming, I couldn't resist, and he even
told me that Hera would never find out but it seems he lied. I think she's been watching me, and these past few
weeks I've had nothing but awful luck. I'm so paranoid and I fear the worst for myself. I have no idea how she
found out, I've been so good at keeping it a secret, and I haven't told anyone . I've been wondering if you had any
answers to my problems, being so wise.

A: Hey there! Your story sure is interesting, and I do really feel bad for you, but this isn't the first time someone
has gotten in a situation like this, and this probably isn't the last. Oh, I would know, the same thing happened to
me and countless other goddesses and mortal women. Never. Trust. Zeus. He may look handsome, muscled, and
alluring, but don't let that fool you. Zeus is a master at deceiving unsuspecting young ladies, and he told me the
same thing about Hera. Guess what happened? She found out. Turns out it's quite easy for a goddess like her to see
through Zeus’ deception, and I have no clue why she stays with him. Zeus is just a scumbag, no matter how
handsome, and he doesn't care about the girls he tricks. Unless you are a goddess more powerful than Hera,
there's not much you can do. The best thing you could do right now is to try and hide from Hera's wrath,
though that might be a long time because she's very relentless . Hopefully she'll forget about it, or grow tired of
chasing you. Good luck! You'll need it.

ASK PANAGIOTA

Panagiota Anagnos

Q: Dear Panagiota,
Hi! I have noticed troubles between my husband and I. He has been checking out other women lately, and it
makes me feel inferior. All these women have light skin and hair! They’re absolutely beautiful!! Please help! I have
dirty blonde hair, and it has been growing darker by the day.
- Sappho from Athens

A: Dear Sappho,
Fear not! The latest trend in hair treatment for cases like yours is vinegar! Sounds simple enough right? Just buy
a nice sized jug, and pour it into a tub and soak your hair for 20 minutes every day for a week. You should see
results almost right away!! Your hair might stink, but it’s worth it for platinum blonde locks. The new trend is
for men not to pay attention to their wives but it's okay! I hope that after this, your husband will keep all his
attention on you! You will look beautiful.
- Sincerely, Panagiota

Aristophanes Play “The Frogs”, Expected to Win 1st

Helena Barbas

There is a new play in town, one the critics think everyone should come to see. Aristophanes new play, “The Frogs”
comes to life at sundown tomorrow, for the public to enjoy. Here's the rundown: The play follows the god
Dionysus’ trip to the Underworld, to bring Euripides back from the dead. RIP Euripides. We loved your works, no
matter how controversial they were. Dionysus’ slave named Xanthias tags along, who is believed to be even smarter
and braver than Dionysus. Throughout the play, Dionysus makes many stupid mistakes, which in turn, Xanthias has
to fix. Eventually, the pair seeks help from many, such as Heracles. Fair warning, the play can get pretty graphic.
Anyway, Dionysus and Xanthias have to take pretty drastic measures to get to the underworld, even encountering a
freaky monster named Empusa. According to one critic, the monster is adorable, and deserves more stage time than
he got. In real life, the actors who play Dionysus and Xanthias are best friends, and their connection shows in the
production. The chorus of the play is outstanding, and does a great job at not overpowering the leads, but still
being a huge part and support. The play will be performed at Lenaia, one of the festivals of Dionysus, and is expected
to win first place, so get your tickets, and hope it lives up to its expectations!

came as a great shock to the people of Athens, and made it official: the peplos is out. Cecrops’ political rivals will

knee-length tunics, which seem to be the new style. Sorry, Cecrops, it seems that you, along with the p eplos, are

Euripides Daughter Killed After Attack by a Rabid Dog

Helena Barbas

Turns out, the famous playwright Euripides, had a secret daughter. Earlier this morning, a body was found near the Acropolis,
which by the looks of it, was ripped apart by a rabid dog. Once the news reached Euripides, he made a public announcement for
all to hear. He talked about his secret daughter, and how he kept her in hiding for all of her life. He said that he did it because
of all his enemies, and didn't think she would be able to fight back if attacked, so she was raised elsewhere. While this news is
shocking, it leaves another problem. If the wild dog was part of some sort of revenge plan, who could be next on their hit list?
Do they have one? Anyone associated with Euripides could be in danger, including his cast, so watch your back, before the dogs
come to rip you apart.

Famous Courtesan Mnesarete Strips Down Yet Again For Elusinian Festival

By: Aikaterine Galanis

This weekend Mnesarete, a well known courtesan who is better known as Phryne, had stripped down to enter the ocean during
the Eleusis Festival. This is the third account of her doing this, and in turn she drew in a crowd of spectators. In this crowd,
was the famous artist Apelles. He has given a statement to The Spartan Spectacle about being a witness to this event.

“She [Mnesarete] is just absolutely prepossessing, the most beautiful woman I have seen in my life. I am just shell-shocked.”
Apelles continued his speech and ranted about the beauty of Mnesarete, but we cut him off in order to fit this quote in.
Perhaps Mnesarete will inspire his next piece? Little to say the populace is extremely excited

We requested a statement from Mnesarete, but she declined. Media attention has been especially focused on her after she bared
her bosom in order to escape charges of impiety from the court.

We will keep updates on Apelles’ next piece.
