Barry [referring to "Stella by Starlight"]: Let's think of this...watch.
Major, minor, minor with the 6th in the bass:
"Gb major"...what's the minor?
"Eb minor".
Put the 6th in the bass, what you got? [C half diminished]
So, that's what we going to play for the first change: "C half diminished".
So, now, any key.... it's going to be like that.
Okay, in the key... suppose we was in the key of "E"?
"Bb half diminished"....
Why?
Because there's a "Db minor"...and put the 6th in the bass, right?
If we were in the key of "Ab"...
"Ab", what minor?
"F minor".
"D" in the bass, right? [i.e. D half diminished].
If we was in the key of "Db", what was it?
[Bb minor]
[G half diminished].

See, we aren't going to know this from knowing that...

"Oh, I've gotta transpose these changes from one to another..."
"BUT WE [instead] GONNA KNOW IT BY MOVEMENTS"

Like, somewhere else in that tune is that kind of movement, see?

Barry: See, that's the same movement as the beginning [of Stella By Starlight],
except you don't play it in the beginning, but you gotta play it later on.

It goes back to the major, and then it goes all the way down to that same thing

[i.e. it goes from major, to minor, to minor with 6th in the bass].

they won't start with the major...
they'll start with the minor...
and THEN you gotta put the 6th in the bass.
And that's what it does on the next part.....
