METHODOLOGY

. Set up two seeded dilution water blanks (ranging between 0.3 - 1.0 mg/L)

Approximate the amount of BOD in the sample, by referring to Table 1. Prepare two
dilutions for sample collected and calculate dilution factor (P) 


 Adjust the ph of the diluted sample to 6.5-7. 5 


 Carefully pour the pH adjusted sample into the BOD bottles. Avoid entrapping
air 
 bubbles.

Measure the initial DO of each diluted sample (D1) and blank (B1) using a calibrated
DO probe. 


o Incubate blanks, the samples at 20oC for five days. 


o After five days incubation, measure DO in each bottle sample (D2) and blank
(B1) by DO probe, and calculate BOD5 using the formula
