2012-21691 Homework 3

1. I was able to interview a friend who now works as a business analyst at Amadeus. She works
with their customers closely to know what their needs are and the potential business changes
and processes. A business analyst should have a degree on IT or Computer Science, which was
perfect for her because she took up Computer Science in De La Salle University. She is an expert
in System Analysis, which in a skill she needed for her to get the job. Prior to her accepting the
job, she didn’t have much experience on dealing with different clients and organizations. She
also didn’t know much about the travel industry, but she was willing to learn so she accepted
the job.

The above JD is an example of a competency based Job Description. Here, the nature of the job was
given and the responsibilities were listed so that the potential employee would know what he/she needs
to do the job. Furthermore, the JD lists down demonstrable characteristics that a person should have to
perform the job. For example, the JD included that the employee should have proven ability to
document and solve problems and issues effectively.

3. Based on my interview and the Job Description given above, I think what the interviewee said about
the nature of her work is pretty much the same as what was described in the JD. The Job Description
gave specific skills and responsibilities, and included characteristics one must possess to be a business
analyst at Amadeus.

4. What I would add to the Job Description is to have a proven discipline to work independently in a
dynamic, fast-paced environment. Given that the industry is very dynamic and changes occur every now
and then, I think having a mindset of being independent when required is a must for this kind of job.
Leadership skills are also needed because he/she would also be working with people from different
departments.
