It is located in the center of the state at the coordinates 18 27 ‘north latitude and 96
21’ west longitude at a height of 60 meters above sea level. It limits to the north
with Cuitláhuac, Cotaxtla, Tlalixcoyan, to the east with Ixmatlahuacan, to the south
with Cosamaloapan. Its approximate distance to the southeast of the state capital,
by road is 215 km Tierra Blanca Veracruz.
♥ When it was founded Tierra Blanca

It is estimated that these lands were occupied for approximately two thousand
years by the Olmec civilization, who by the year 900 to 960 AD, were invaded and
displaced by the Totonacs, and later by the Aztecs, provoking a cultural fusión that
is still to the seen in the abundant archaeological remains found in the northeastem
part of the municipality, in localidies such as Nepcla, Los cerros, Dicha Tuerta,
Cochindi, etc. During colonial times the municipal territory and almost the entire
region were divided into large haciendas, with some notable ones such as San
Jose del Cacao, La estan Zuela , or Julieta in the neighboring state of Oaxaca. The
fundation of this municipality dates from the year 1868, although some versions
indicate that the first houses would have been constructed by the year 1860.
Founding families. Through the oral tradition the tollowing people and founding
families of the municipality of Tierra Blanca are mentioned: Eligio Bravo, Miguel
Tinoco, Felix Tinoco and their children: José María Rosas, Miguel Dimas, Mateo
Herrera, Pedro Garcia and his brother Isaac, Manuel and Antonio Hernández.

♥The reconstruction of the municipal palace

The reconstruction of the building of the municipal palace corresponded to the city
council presided by Francisco Castro Gonzales, taking advantage of the walls to
remodel it in its totality, in addition to constructing balconies on both sides and on
the main balcony for civic acts; but it was very successful, because it was almost
indispensable that White earth had a palace worthy of is category ad the gate of
the Papaloapan, wich is now admired by own and strangers as a jewel.

♥Why is it called that?

The first name that was known to this place was Paso Blanco, due to a stream
located towards what was the southeast of the community whose bottom was of
“tizate”, where visitors arriving to the ranchería on horseback or in cart they
stopped to drink their beasts.
♥General population census

In the year 1868 white earth had 450 inhabitants approx. In the year 1898 the
population rose to 840 inhabitants; however, an extraordinary event in this place
gave rise to an unusual increase in the population from 1898 to 1905, because at
this time the construction of workshops, offices, yard, tanks, storage, fuel and other
annexes for railways. In 1970 according to the general census of population, the
municipality had 48,733 inhabitants; in this head 24,295 selected that there were
24,628 men and 24,104 women. Now in the census of the year 1980, 46,030
inhabitants and in the communities 91,875 inhabitants.

♥Economic Activity

ΔCattle raising

Livestock of the municipality has productivity lower than the state average
according to the survey, this sector is also considered a priority. Cattle production
is mentioned as a product of economic importance for the municipality.

ΔFishing

The statistics do not report infrastructure for fishing, but the municipality has
surface wáter bodies, so fishing could have potential.

ΔIndustry

According to the consumption of electric energy by users the industrial and


services sector is below the state average, indicating a low dynamism in these
sectors.

ΔCommerce

The index of trade units and supply per inhabitant is higher than the state average,
which indicates a development of the sector, and the municipality presents an
index of bank branches in also greater than the state average, which means a
more dynamic development of the municipality in relation to the state average.
ΔTourism

The statistics detect tourist infrastructure, although with a lower ofter to the state
average and indictes that the providers of this service have not been trained. The
survey mentions tourism as one of the activities that should be supported to
promote development and ecotourism in the lagoon system as an undeveloped but
potential activity.

ΔTrades

The survey says that it is necessary to train people in different trades to generate
self-employment.

ΔGastronomy

The most typical food of this town is the barbecue of beef, which recently was
named typical dish of the municipality because this dish is also eaten at weddings,
parties and wake.

There is also very representative food that are the tamales of masa and elote,
cabecitas of dog, dairy products of a great quality like the ranchero, aged and
threaded cheeses, the garnachas, the puritos, the prepared potatoes, mondongo,
rellena, chileatole, tesmole, manchamantel, old clothes, bruise, adobo of rabbit,
among others.

ΔCulture

Festivities:

For the months of april and may, there are the festivities of the King momo: the
carnaval where all the youth converges in those days of celebration in the main
Street, this event is one of the oldest of the region since it dates from 1930 the first
carnival.

 On November 1st and 2nd, the traditional celebration of Todos Santos and
Fieles Difuntos, where altars of life are set up in honor of the dead, altars
are organized with the participation of several schools.
 From 1 to 12 December the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe who is honored
with pilgrimages.
