SUBJECT: CRNA Title Recognition Co-Sponsorship

Dear Representative:

As your constituent, and as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) [or … student
studying to be a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA)] in Pennsylvania, I am
writing to ask that you please co-sponsor legislation being sponsored by Rep. Tarah
Toohil to give CRNAs the title recognition we deserve. I have attached a copy of the co-
sponsorship memo for your review.

Pennsylvania is one of just two states that fail to recognize CRNAs in some form, even
though CRNAs are the hands-on providers of anesthesia care, operating safely in every
setting where anesthesia is administered. Because there is no definition for “certified
registered nurse anesthetist” under the state’s Professional Nursing Law, CRNAs are
recognized only as registered nurses, not as CRNAs.

With your support, this measure would formally recognize nurse anesthetists as
“CRNAs” under Pennsylvania statute and finally acknowledge CRNAs for our skills,
experience, education and training. Bipartisan measures have been introduced and have
passed in previous sessions, so I am hoping you will co-sponsor this non-controversial
title recognition measure for consideration in this legislative session as well.

Thank you.
