INTRODUCTION: Students will be learn the alphabet. They will learn names of
animals where the first letter of their names corresponds with each
letter of the alphabet. They will also learn to file the animal
pictures in alphabetical order. Students will work together as a
group. Once students complete the assignment, they will each
use an IPad to practice what they have learned on the IPad
application Bob Books #1 - Reading Magic. Once students
have a better grasp of the alphabet, students can use the same
IPad application to practice putting words of the alphabet together,
pronounce words, and form sentences.

IN CLASS ACTIVITIES:

1. Teacher will first teach each letter of the alphabet to students,

both upper and lower case letters. The teacher will write each
letter on the white board and also pronounce each individual letter.
This way students can identify each letter, learn to pronounce them,
and match up each letter with each sound.

2. Teacher will explain assignment to students. Pass out supplies

that will be needed to complete assignment. The teacher will
remain in front of the class while students all work in a group.

3. One student will get book with picture of animals, How to Draw
101 Pets, by author Dan Green. Another student will get
expandable filing folder and put it in a location where all students
have access. Another student picks up the scissors, crayons, and the
twenty-six envelopes. All the IPads are on the teacher's desk in
front of the class until students are ready to use them.

4. Students take turns cutting out pictures from animal book. They
use crayons to draw each letter of the alphabet on each envelope.
Other students get the animal pictures and put them inside each
envelope in order where the first letter of the animal name
corresponds with a letter of the alphabet. Students take turns
putting the envelopes in alphabetical order inside the expandable
filing folder.

5. Once the assignment is completed, a student takes the

expandable filing folder to the teacher. The teacher opens each
envelope in front of the class to see if each animal picture
corresponds with the correct letter of the alphabet. The teacher
also pays close attention to see if the animal pictures are filed in
the correct alphabetical order.
6. The teacher passes out the IPad to each student so that they
can practice what they learned in class. The Bob Books #1 -
Reading Magic Application IPad application also teaches
students to put letters together to form sentences, and help
them with word pronunciation.

ASSESSMENT: Make sure that students have an understanding of the alphabet,

the order that each letter follows in the alphabet, how each letter
is written and pronounced. Teacher must also make sure that
students learned how to file in alphabetical order. Ask students
questions regarding the assignment. Walk around the classroom
to see if students have questions regarding the IPad application
assignment.

HOMEWORK: Provide students with paper that has lines so that students can
write out both upper and lower case letters of the alphabet at
home. Students will have two days complete this assignment.
